Leanne & Fitness Tips say:

MYTH: Fad diets will result in permanent weight loss

FACT: Fad diets all too often promise us quick weight loss and insist that you cut out certain foods. Often, you lose weight at first which can be exciting and rewarding, but diets that are strict on limiting calorie intake and food choices are hard to follow and eventually you will end up regaining the weight that you lost.

MYTH: Breakfast should consist of fruit only

FACT: There is no hard evidence to prove that eating only fruit at breakfast has any weight-loss benefits. Most fruits are low in complex carbohydrates, which the body actually needs after fasting throughout the night. Wholegrain cereals and breads are a healthier and better option for breakfast.

MYTH: Some foods magically cause weight loss

FACT: You may have heard that fruits such as grapefruit or kelp burn off body fat, but this just isn’t true. Dietary fibre is key and provides a feeling of fullness with minimal kilojoules. High-fibre foods such as fruits, vegetables, wholegrain breads, cereals and legumes can also be low in fat.

MYTH: Skipping meals is a good way to lose weight

FACT: Studies have shown that skipping breakfast or meals throughout the day can lead to carrying extra weight compared to those who eat regular meals through the day. People who skip meals are more likely to feel hungrier later in the day and binge eat. Eating many small meals during the day helps to curb the appetite.

So, hopefully uncovering these few weight loss myths has given you a new found confidence to eat healthily and form healthy eating habits! Good luck!
