3 Ways People Sabotage Their Weight Loss Plans

Yes! It is now the end of January and over 90% of resolutions are probably a mere memory. Once again, people set new goals for weight loss and hope for the best. Here are the top 3 ways people sabotage their plans and how to avoid them.

1.) They believe in the past

“See, I told you so. This is the way it always ends up.” There is comfort in the past. We all get used to things happening as they always do. But in order to change the future, you must let go of the past. Divorce yourself mentally from the past. That was the old you! That’s why before and after pictures are a bit dangerous. People look at the before picture and they mentally yearn for that comforting time period.

The best way to let go of the past is to write a new story. Actually put pen to paper and write how you will look, feel, and live in the future. It need not be a novel, but write at least 2 pages. Describe your body in detail and exactly how you will feel being healthy and fit! Read this story to yourself when you get up and when you go to bed at night (skip the news).

2.) They listen to others

We all get used to seeing our friends and family as they are (and were). When someone changes, especially loses weight, all of a sudden, people are forced to form a new perception of you. Most people cannot handle that. That would mean upsetting THEIR life! Who are you to lose weight and get fit? What happened to the fat person we used to know? They will try to sabotage your efforts!

They will start calling you a fitness freak! Who wants to be a freak? They will offer you foods that they know you are trying to avoid!

What can you do? The best way is to avoid them for a time. Work on you. Stay focused. If you cannot avoid certain people, read your story you wrote before you see them so you can stay on track.

3.) They do not invest in their own mind

Here is a good statement to remember…The same thinking that got you to where you are will not get you to where you are going.

To change your body, you must change your thinking. How do you change your thinking, put good stuff in! There are literally thousands of free and low cost meditation and subliminal recordings available. Your subconscious is powerful. It’s job is to keep you where you are at! So, in order to get where you want to be, you must change your subconscious!

Subliminal tapes, affirmations, self talk, and meditations are all good ways to change your subconscious. You can even look on Youtube and find recordings that help. Will power will only get you so far. Permanent changes come from permanent changes in your thinking.

In addition, learn to speak to yourself in a positive manner. “I deserve to be fit.” “My body wants to be healthy.” “I am a healthy person.”, etc.
